Fire alarm interrupts BBC’s ‘Football Focus’

Live programmes broadcast from the BBC’s new complex in Manchester are repeatedly being disrupted by fire alarms.

On Saturday (3rd March), BBC One’s Football Focus show was interrupted by a fire alarm, causing host Dan Walker to cut away to pre-recorded footage as his discussions with guests Martin Keown and Mark Lawrenson were drowned out.

Walker jokingly tweeted about the incident shortly after: “Fire alarm has gone off again. I was about to make the greatest point of my life. Can’t remember it now.”

It is the fifth time in two months that a BBC programme broadcast from the £1 billion Salford centre has been disrupted, with Radio 5 Live hosts Nicky Campbell, Richard Bacon and Tony Livesey all hearing the klaxon during their shows in recent weeks.

The BBC first broadcasted shows from its new northern headquarters late last year, as the corporation looked to better represent the UK from outside London.
