Fire At New Brighton Amusement Arcade

A FIRE broke out at Wilkie Leisure Group Amusement Arcade on Marine Promenade in New Brighton this morning.
Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service was called out to the fire in the two storey building, which also contains small retail outlets, at 2.40am.
It started in the storeroom, which spread through the ceiling to three further ground floor rooms and the first floor club.
The storeroom was severely damaged by fire, while a bin storage area was damaged by fire, smoke and heat.
There was also extensive damage to four rooms in the first floor nightclub, which were damaged by heat, smoke and fire.
Moderate smoke damage was caused to the remainder for the first floor nightclub and there was light smoke logging to the remainder of the units on the ground floor.
Wallasey Fire Station received the call and four fire appliances attended.
Firefighters had to gain access to the ground floor chip shop and the first floor nightclub. Hard wired alarms were fitted and actuated.
David Gell Electrical Director at Wirral Fire reminds us of the importance of weekly testing of the fire alarm by those responsible for the building and that all fire alarm systems should be serviced and maintained at least every 6 months by a competent fire alarm engineer.
