Fire in Merseyside Classroom

Firefighters were called to a school in Croxteth after a fire was discovered in a classroom yesterday 21st June

When crews arrived at they discovered a 2nd floor science classroom at De La Salle School well alight.

Watch Manager Tony Lynott said: “The whole classroom was involved in the fire. We extinguished it and ventilated it very quickly, which has helped to minimise the smoke damage.”

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service was called shortly before 1pm, when the school was on their lunch period, and they were at the scene for just over an hour. Three crews were in attendance.

The classroom has been left 100% damaged by fire, heat and smoke and the fire also caused moderate smoke damage to another classroom and a corridor.

An investigation into the cause has concluded it was an accidental fire, caused by an electrical fault.
