Heroic dog sacrificed himself to save baby by protecting her as fire ripped through family home

The tot’s mother revealed that the brave pooch Polo stayed with the baby all the time as the fire destroyed the home

A hero dog saved an eight-month-old girl when flames ripped through their home – but tragically lost his own life by doing so.

Heroic Polo protected little Vivianna Poremski from the blaze as the fire took hold during the blaze in Baltimore, USA.

Fire crews discovered the pet inside the room with the toddler when they burst inside.

The infant’s mother Erika had stepped out to the car only to see fire raging when she turned around.

Erika told US news channel WBLATV : “She only had burns on her side because of it (what Polo did).

“He (Polo) stayed with her the whole time in the bedroom and wouldn’t even come downstairs to get out the door.”

Paramedics were able to resuscitate Vivianna at the scene but she remains in a serious condition.

The dog tragically died after his act of bravery.

“He (Polo) was my first baby and now I lost him,” said Erika fighting back tears.

“And I’m just praying I don’t lose her. She’s all I have and it just happened so fast.”

Baltimore City Fire Department said the incident was reported just before 11pm last Sunday.

A spokesperson said: “When units arrived they found a two story row home with heavy fire and smoke showing from the first and second floor of the location.

“Initial units on the scene confirmed that there was a six month old baby trapped on the second floor of the home.

“Those units made entry into the home and were able to rescue the infant.

“The fire was placed under control within 30 minutes.

“The six month old was transported to an area hospital and is listed in serious condition.”

The fire department said the cause of the blaze is under investigation.
