A restaurant fire caused traffic chaos along the Edgware Road in London last night while 50 people were evacuated from their homes.
Five people fled the ground floor restaurant, understood to be Valentino, when ducting in the kitchen caught fire shortly after 5pm.
The London Fire Brigade evacuated 50 people from the flats above and another 10 left by themselves.
The road was closed at the junction with Sussex Gardens and was reopened just before 10pm.
A spokeswoman for the London Fire Brigade said: “We sent six fire engines to reports of a fire in a ground floor restaurant with flats above.
“Part of the kitchen was alight. One person was attended to by the London Ambulance Service. 30 per cent of the ducting was alight.”
The fire was brought under control by 20.30pm.
